Preschool

The Preschool program at Rowan Tree offers a gentle and nurturing first school experience for young children aged 2 years and 5 months to 4 years.

With two dedicated and experienced teachers guiding a small group of up to sixteen children, our warm and home-like environment fosters a strong sense of belonging and supports each child’s emotional and social growth.

Our licensed program, grounded in rhythm and play, includes generous time for both indoor and outdoor exploration, nourishing meals, rich oral storytelling, artistic experiences such as painting, drawing, and modelling, and joyful song and movement circles.

Our goal is to nurture the living imagination in each child and to foster in children curiosity, reverence and love for the world around them.

Screen-free Classroom

Our Preschool program offers a warm and nurturing environment where young children are gently guided as they engage in rich, imaginative play. Rooted in a rhythm that honours the child’s natural curiosity, our days are filled with opportunities for self-directed exploration, social connection, and creative expression.

Through unstructured play and purposeful movement—both indoors and outdoors—children develop their fine and gross motor skills, while strengthening their sensory awareness and overall physical coordination.

Open-ended Play

We create a wholesome and inviting space by thoughtfully curating open-ended play materials such as wooden blocks, play silks, and a variety of natural loose parts. These simple, beautiful items invite children to explore, imagine, and create freely. Combined with soft textures and calming, nature-inspired colours, they bring warmth and harmony to the classroom, nurturing a sense of comfort, wonder, and belonging.

Outdoor Play

At Rowan Tree Children’s School, our Preschool children spend ample time outdoors each day in a naturalized play yard. This ever-changing environment invites imaginative play and meaningful seasonal work—digging, raking, building, splashing, and exploring the living world around them.

Outdoor play fosters physical development, balance, and coordination, while also offering opportunities for age-appropriate “risky play” that builds confidence and resilience.

Preschool

The preschool program runs from September to June, Monday to Friday from 9:05 am to 3:00 pm, and is a licensed child care program with the Ministry of Education, participating in the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC) program.
